The Board of Examiners requires that you arrange to have following sent to the Board office:

Up-to-date resume
Job description, if employed
University transcript (BSW/MSW) sent from university directly to the Board (subsequent to bing granted degree) or
Letter from school of social work confirming completion of BSW/MSW degree program (if you have completed social work degree program and are awaiting convocation)
Two completed reference forms (click here) . These forms should be given by you to your referees for completion, to be forwarded by them directly to the Board office.
Criminal Record Check (contact local police)
Child Abuse Registry Check (Click here)
Proof of good standing from all social work and other professional regulatory bodies with which you are or have been registered
Consent for release of information to employer concerning status of your application (click here)

Your application will not be presented to the Board for approval until the Board office has received a complete application package. All material must be available 10 days prior to the Board meeting. The Board meets monthly, eleven times a year. Notification of the Board’s decision is mailed to you within a week after the decision. In addition, your name is added to the Register of Social Workers and Social Worker Candidates (click here) within the week.
Pending review of your application by the Board, the Registrar may grant temporary registration for a period of up to two months. For more information about temporary status, please contact the Board office.
Should your application not be approved, you will be informed, in writing of the reasons.
You may submit a completed application package to the Board for registration to practise social work in Nova Scotia. Based on the information provided in your application, the Board will determine your registration status.
