#36 - "A Couple Dancing"
A "timeless figure" of a couple dancing, in electroplated and patinated woven copper wire cloth (26 cm high by 12 cm in diameter). Dawn MacNutt is a Weaver and Sculptor living and working in Dartmouth, NS. Dawn shows her work all over Canada and around the world. She stretches traditional skills used in handling fiber to new limits in the pursuit of sophisticated form and imagery. She uses techniques formerly used in tapestry, basketry and knitting to create evocative, dynamic figurative sculpture. Sometimes traditional basketry materials are fashioned into three demensional forms and cast in bronze. Sometimes metal wires are woven into a sheet and then the sheet is manipulated into a free standing figure. Because most of the pieces are loosely woven, their transparency creates a mysterious, almost ghostlike impression. Dawn MacNutt worked as a family therapist for many years before devoting herself to sculpture full time in 1995. She studied at Mount Allison University in New Brunswick, Dalhousie University and the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design in Halifax.

#44 - Hooked Rug with a twist - "Tapisabelle" ; Un tapis hooké différent - "Tapisabelle"
"Tapisabelle" was especially designed and made for the 2006 National Social Work Conference, Transformations : Charting Our Course. The artist, Betty Ann Cormier-Beaudry, is originally from Cheticamp, NS, world capital of the hooked rug. When she was but six weeks old, her mother began learning the art of rug hooking as her own mother and grandmother had in the past. Therefore, the artist is the fourth generation who took up the craft of rug hooking. For this piece, the artist has invited her daughter to join her as a sign of their own transformations; believing that we can make good choices in life no matter the obstacles. As an adolescent, Betty Ann was already selling her rug and loom creations in local craft shops. After taking a long break, Betty Ann has gotten back to her love of creating. as she had as a teenager. What is different this time around, is that Betty Ann no longer stitches on the burlap. The colours used remind her of her roots, of her Acadie. She now resides in Dieppe, NB, but often returns home to find inspiration. The artist's work is displayed and for sale during the Summer months at Jean's Handicrafts in Cheticamp, NS. Betty Ann, a social worker, has a private practice in Cheticamp, NS. She can be reached at 506-382-3705 or at beaudry3@nb.sympatico.ca.

Social Worker Ken Osbourne offers a unique self-esteem development tool. This recording combines the proven brainwave balancing effects of Tibetan singing bowls with the memory association potential of aromatherapy. After being led on a guided relaxation experience of your physical body, you are requested to imagine yourself in a very special place that you choose. It can be somewhere you have been many times, or one only real in your imagination. You remember or create a place where you can feel secure, loved and confident. In this sanctuary, you are guided to connect to your core spirit and being aware of the joy of life. Much of this recording's growth potential lies in its focus on having the listener soften criticism and become more open to receiving praise and accepting positive feelings. Mentally rehersing oneself responding competently and confidently to life situations important to you is central to this experience. Our brain's strongest link to memory is our sense of smell; so an aromatherapy blend is included with this 30 minute CD. It is composed of pure Geranium, Rose, and Orange essential oils, and the recipie for a refill is included in the liner notes. The aroma's purpose is to provide a unique link to your special spot.
